Božidar Joksimović#

The first Serbian opera, titled Ženidba Miloša Obilić (Vila Ravijojla), was composed in 1901 according to the libretto by Dragutin Ilić. It was never publicly performed, even though the composer Božidar Janković repeatedly offered it to the National Theater in Belgrade (in 1902, 1931 and 1941/42). On the other hand, it is little known that Božidar Joksimović composed the music for Igrale se delije according to the verses by Milorad Petrović Seljančica.#

Joksimović’s works contained national and romantic elements. His numerous stage, orchestral, chamber and vocal works left a huge trace on music in the late 19th and early 20th century, all the way to the post-war years of the 20th century.#
